Hi everyone! My name is Maddy and I am a freshman here at SDSU. As both the reader and writer, I would describe myself as average but enthusiastic. In this course, I am hoping to improve as a reader, but mostly as a writer. My ultimate goal is to write captivating pieces and to be a good storyteller. I find that can be a challenge at times and I often deal with writer's block. I hope to have a lot of growth and improvement as this semester goes on. There are many different ways to start writing, and I’m still figuring out what method will work best for me. My favorite hobby is dancing. I was on my high school dance team. It has taught me a lot about discipline, hardwork, and working with others. My favorite thing to do is to go to the beach. I enjoy reading at the beach on occasion. I often like to go outside and enjoy nature when I have free time. Sometimes just being in a relaxing environment also helps with my writing. My favorite book that I've ever read is called The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden. My favorite part about this book is the big unexpected and shocking twist that happens right in the middle. Books like that really keep you interested and when you don't know what to expect. It's interesting how this book has stuck with me even though I read it over two years ago. An article that I had to read for one of my classes that really stuck with me was Baggage Claims by Leslie Jamison. I found that this article had a lot of hidden meanings and themes, which I found really meaningful. A lot of what she wrote can be interpreted in different ways which allowed it to be more personal to me. It made me realize how powerful storytelling is.I usually interact most with other people through school and random activities I have throughout the week. Starting college and living in a dorm has definitely led to many more social interactions. Getting to know so many new people and hearing about everyone’s different backgrounds is something I’ve really enjoyed. Everyone I meet has a different story, and it’s always fascinating to hear what others have to say.
